Youth & Family Services
Helping Families for Over 50 Years
Accessible, affordable community-based mental health care, from preschool through retirement
At Lighthouse Youth and Family Services, we have served Southwestern Baltimore County and the surrounding community for over 50 years. Our licensed counselors and graduate interns provide skilled, evidence-based individual, family and group counseling for clients across the lifespan.
Our counselors are trained to work with mood disorders, trauma, behavioral concerns, parent/child relationships, couples and more. We really are “brightening tomorrow, today,” for hundreds of clients, every year.
Lighthouse is a longstanding, active member of MAYSB – the Maryland Association of Youth Service Bureaus
As a Maryland Youth Service Bureau, Lighthouse provides child-focused family counseling, as well as individual counseling for adolescents and transitional-age young adults. We work to restore healthy relationships within families, and nurture youth to become responsible, productive members of the community. We work with youth and their families to increase healthy coping skills and protective factors, emotional expression and regulation, interpersonal communication skills, and problem-solving. Our community-based, solution-focused efforts have been shown to be highly effective in helping prevent youth from entering the Juvenile Justice System.
Quality mental health care for any budget
At Lighthouse, no one is ever turned away due to inability to pay. Some of our counselors participate with several major insurance plans, as well as Medicaid. We offer an income-based sliding fee scale, for self-pay clients. Much of our counseling is provided by highly skilled graduate counseling interns, completing their master’s degrees or doctorates. Our intern training program, combined with the grants and donations we receive, allows us to provide high-quality services at affordable prices. Lighthouse receives support from the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission, the Baltimore County Local Management Board, the Catonsville Women’s Giving Circle, the Catonsville Men’s Civic Association, Salem Lutheran Church, and other grantors and donors.
