Counseling

Lighthouse counselors work with clients to identify achievable goals, then use a variety of evidence-based and clinically proven therapeutic techniques to help them meet those goals. We work with clients across the lifespan, from preschool through post-retirement age. As a Maryland Youth Services Bureau, we have established a reputation for providing child-focused family counseling for issues such as school performance and behavior problems; parent/child relationship issues; matters of divorce and child custody; trauma; and other problems. We work with couples on relationship repair and enhancement, and improved communication. We help individuals with mood disorders; trauma histories; grief and loss; life transitions, and more.

Community Outreach and Education

Lighthouse provides workshops and webinars on topics of interest to counseling professionals as well as the general public. Through our Together Project, we provide both counseling and psychoeducation on living within an addictive family system; substance abuse prevention; parenting during recovery and other relevant, practical topics. We also supply speakers for meetings of civic and faith-based organizations.

Social Connection Groups

Sociabilities© social connection groups for neurodivergent clients provide opportunities for positive social interaction from elementary school age to young adulthood. Groups are designed to facilitate positive peer interactions, with age-appropriate activities, games, and opportunities to practice and strengthen interpersonal communication skills and confidence in relationship building. For more information, contact our Social Connections Coordinator, WeiAnne Reidy, at WeiAnne@lighthousemd.org.

The Together Project

Families Affected by Addiction

Since 2019, our Together Project has worked to address the needs of clients with a loved one affected by addiction – particularly those affected by the opioid epidemic. Through a combination of individual or family counseling, group, and psychoeducational offerings, we help these clients with coping strategies, trauma recovery, grief and loss, mood disorders, and family relationship challenges. We also offer assistance to referrals for practical concerns – healthcare, utility and housing assistance, and more.

Outreach to Baltimore County Public Schools

Lighthouse has a long history of collaborating with school counselors, teachers, and administration, in the best interests of our children and youth. Thanks to a grant awarded through the Maryland Consortium on Coordinated Community Supports, we offer a program of focused outreach to students in the Baltimore County Public Schools, and their families. We have partnerships with more than a dozen local schools, allowing us to expedite referrals, and provide counseling to students either at Lighthouse or in their own public school settings.

Internship Training Program

Lighthouse is a training agency, committed to preparing the next generation of child and family counselors, following the practices and philosophies that have made us successful for decades. Our intern selection process is highly competitive. Interns receive close supervision by licensed, board approved supervisors, both in individual and in group supervision sessions. In-service trainings are provided, as well as a financial stipend toward additional training of the intern’s choice. Interns are required to serve at least two consecutive academic semesters with us. Graduate students enrolled in counseling or counseling psychology programs are encouraged to apply, one semester ahead of their proposed start date. Interested graduate students should send resume and cover letter to Dr. Susan Fetcho, Clinical Director, at susan@lighthousemd.org.
